Welcome to Chiang Mai! Maybe you have to get used to the heat a bit when coming from abroad? A perfect excuse to hop on a bike at night and explore the old city of Chiang Mai! This 3,5 hour tour starts at 18:00 and takes you on a relaxed 11km bike ride around the historic city. Visit temples, holy shrines and modern architecture. An easy ride with opportunities to taste some night street food!
What to expect on this tour
We start the night bike trip at the grasshopper office at 17:45. Please be there at this time as we are leaving at 18:00 sharp! After you pick your bike and helmet, we head to off to a number of destinations withing Chiang Mai city. This is an easy 14 km bike tour and is also suitable for families. The terrain in the city is all flat and we navigate through the traffic in a a safe and organized manner. Chiang Mai’s drivers are pollite, so no need to worry about that!

- Slow ride Tha Pae Gate – We visit the eastern gate first. Here we take a stroll around the narrow streets and visit the main gate: Tha Phae. This was once the entry point for traders who brought their goods into the city. Our guide will tell you everything about the trading history of Chiang Mai.
- Wat Intakin and the Three Kings Monument – Our next stop is Wat Intakin. Here you can find a 700 year old white Buddha and the monument for the 3 kings. Learn about the origin and founding of Chiang Mai here.
- Wat Lok Molee – We paddle on towards the city moat. We leave our bikes here and walk to Wat Lok Molee; a beautiful stupa that looks even more spectecular when it’s lit up at night. At this time of the day the wooden prayer hall houses many monks, which you can hear chanting in the background.
- Wat Chedi Luang – This is Chiang Mai’s grandest monument. It was once the home of the Emerald buddha (to be found in Bangkok now) and was built to house the ashes of a king. Nowadays you can find the impressive city pillar and 3 large trees here. They provide protection to Chiang Mai.
- Street Food at Chiang Mai Gate Market – Our final stop brings us to the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai’s night market. Our guide will take you around the market. Try different types of street food here (not included) or sit down with a drink (not included) to enjoy the atmosphere.
The night market is located close to the Grasshopper shop. We drop off our bikes at the shop and end the tour. You can easily walk back to the market to try out some more food & drinks.
