About the Doi Inthanon national park tour

This one day tour to Doi Inthanon from Chiang Mai combines has a lot to offer! Visit the highest peak of Thailand, Hmong & Karen tribes (no long necks), local markets and waterfalls. Also included are return hotel transfers to and from Chiang Mai by air conditioned van (within a 4km radius of city centre. Further locations may be subject to surcharge), all entrance fees, a Thai set lunch menu, water, a licensed English speaking guide and travel insurance.

What to expect on this tour?

The day starts with a pickup from your hotel, guesthouse or villa in Chiang Mai. Are you staying outside Chiang Mai (4km radius of city centre)? Please contact us to arrange transport from outside the city for an extra fee. The drive to Doi Inthanon national park takes around 1,5 hours. It’s a comfortable ride by A/C minivan so this is the time to enjoy the surroundings and the changing landscape as we move into the mountains.

Our first stop is the Wachirathan waterfall. This is the most powerful waterfall on the way and measures around 80 meters high on different tiers. It’s also quite wide and is an excellent opportunity to bring out the camera. We will spend around 20 minutes here. It’s then time to move on to the next stop, a Karen hill tribe. Please note that these are not the ‘famous’ long necks, but a less touristy tribe on the way up. Visit their village and learn about their traditional way of life here.

When we move higher up the mountain, the next stop is Siritan waterfall. Although smaller than the first one, it’s still an impressive sight. The higher we get, we also have a better view of the hills around us. Our next stop is a lunch break to freshen up. Enjoy a Thai set lunch with local ingredients, vegetarian options are also available.

When you feel full again, we head back to the van for the last bit of the trip up the mountain. Our first stop on top is the King’s and Queen’s chedi, both situated in the beautiful royal gardens. The two stupas are dedicated to the late King Bhumibol and his wife Sirikit and built in 1987 (King) and 1992 (Queen). From there you will have an amazing view over the surrounding mountains and hills. The best view, however, is from the highest peak at Doi Inthanon at 2665 meters. On many days you will be above the clouds, which is really a surreal atmosphere. Bring out the camera again!

Our day is almost finished and it’s time to drive down the mountain again. On the way we stop at a Hmong market, where you can see the Hmong tribe buying and selling goods. They still live very traditionally, which reflects in the clothes they wear. Have a stroll around the market and try the local delicacies if you want. This is also our final stop. The drive back to Chiang Mai takes around 1,5 hours. You should be back in your hotel by 17:00, depending on the traffic. An amazing day out with high mountains, waterfalls and hill tribes.

Enjoyable trip to the beuatiful mountain. It has incredible views, but I suggest doing this trip in the cool season because it was very hot during our trip. Luckily the van is air conditioned.

Good tour. We went for the kings tombs and those turned out to be a bit boring. Enjoyed the local villages the most.
