When we move higher up the mountain, the next stop is Siritan waterfall. Although smaller than the first one, it’s still an impressive sight. The higher we get, we also have a better view of the hills around us. Our next stop is a lunch break to freshen up. Enjoy a Thai set lunch with local ingredients, vegetarian options are also available.
When you feel full again, we head back to the van for the last bit of the trip up the mountain. Our first stop on top is the King’s and Queen’s chedi, both situated in the beautiful royal gardens. The two stupas are dedicated to the late King Bhumibol and his wife Sirikit and built in 1987 (King) and 1992 (Queen). From there you will have an amazing view over the surrounding mountains and hills. The best view, however, is from the highest peak at Doi Inthanon at 2665 meters. On many days you will be above the clouds, which is really a surreal atmosphere. Bring out the camera again!
Our day is almost finished and it’s time to drive down the mountain again. On the way we stop at a Hmong market, where you can see the Hmong tribe buying and selling goods. They still live very traditionally, which reflects in the clothes they wear. Have a stroll around the market and try the local delicacies if you want. This is also our final stop. The drive back to Chiang Mai takes around 1,5 hours. You should be back in your hotel by 17:00, depending on the traffic. An amazing day out with high mountains, waterfalls and hill tribes.
